Lucy Palmer is an award-winning journalist, memoir writer, editor and author of the acclaimed memoir, A Bird on My Shoulder, published by Allen and Unwin.
A former foreign correspondent in Papua New Guinea, Lucy will be taking up a post in 2019 at the University of Central Asia as a visiting lecturer in journalism and creative writing.
As a founder of the Memoir Makers, Lucy has ghost written and edited non-fiction since 2010, including “Playing the Game: Life and Politics in Papua New Guinea” by Sir Julius Chan, published by UQP in 2016.
Lucy’s work has been published around the world by The Observer (UK), the Sydney Morning Herald, the BBC World Service and Radio National. She was awarded a Gold Medal at the New York Arts Festival for her radio documentary, Birdsville to Alice.
Lucy was the first European woman to walk across both the Simpson and Great Sandy deserts, a distance of more than 1600 kilometres.
